No actually thats the real process. You have a primary, then the candidates from different parties run against each other in a general election....its actually fairly simple.....at least I thought so

It may, but I doubt it. I didn’t want Trump for President when Cruz was running in the primaries.
Cruz lost, so I voted for the Republican left standing.
