    June Teenth

Is it just me or do you find it odd they chose June 19 for the holiday and not September 22?

I find it contradicting that they spent the last couple of years trying to remove and erase slavery from history. Now they want a national holiday to celebrate the end of it? Either way I'll get another paid day off, so bring on Cinco De Mayo!

Is this the day that they will thank white men for securing their freedom? And why is the raised fist the symbol for this holiday?

                    Happy Federal Holiday to me.....

Just because Biden signed a law celebrating my birthday as a Federal Holiday doesn't mean I would change my opinion of this idiot....

While the day that a person or their family is not considered property is a noteworthy event, I'm skeptical as to why the Biden administration pursued this now.

As a whole I don't think this was something that was actively pursued by blacks. I was unaware that there was a push for Juneteenth to be a federal holiday.

Honestly, I think white people are pretty hot over this when it's pretty much a non-event in the daily lives of black folk. Put this down with Arbor Day and Columbus day.

I think that people should stay home this evening or head out to the country with out passing through a city. This will linger for a few days and may be the most dangerous one ever.

Let there be peace on earth.

I understand why African Americans observe Juneteenth. It should however be celebrated not just to commemorate newfound freedom but also as a celebration of the American ability to recognize a wrong and make the tremendous sacrifices necessary to make it right. By the way, it should come as no surprise that it took over two years for slaves in Texas to learn that they were free. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in January of 1863 but the war continued for more than two years, ending in April of 1865 at Appomattox. Slave holders in the Confederacy were not going to set them free based on a proclamation from the president of a country they felt they were no longer part of. Many still thought/hoped the south would win.
