The exchange rate went for something like 3 German marks to 1 US dollar to over 7000 marks per US dollar in 1922. Basically a loaf of bread my cost you several thousand marks or their dollars.

All this with leading up into a joke that I heard. A man was pushing a wheelbarrow down the street with about half a million marks to buy a loaf of bread. He tripped and fell into the street and the money dumped out. A huge crowd gathering around him, there was a huge struggle and when the crowd left, the man and all of the cash was still in the street but the wheelbarrow was gone.

That won't happen in this society, people hoard toilet paper these days, and there's no chance they would leave that much of it laying in the street .
