Biden Moves to Revive Obama Plan to Federalize Suburban Zoning Laws

Buried in the nearly 18,000-word White House Fact Sheet on President Joe Biden’s proposed $2.3 trillion “American Jobs Plan” infrastructure bill is one paragraph that could turn the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) into a zoning commission for suburban America.

    ...

The Biden AFFH revival goes several steps further by providing specific examples of what it considers discriminatory zoning and creating billions of dollars in new HUD grant programs as incentives for local and municipal officials to submit to federal supervision of their decisions. A former Fudge House colleague, Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), has just such a proposal for a new HUD grant program.

That approach, according to the Ethics and Public Policy Center senior fellow Stanley Kurtz, is nothing less than a prescription to federalize zoning functions that for centuries have been the prerogative of officials closest to residents of the neighborhoods most directly affected.

“Biden’s plan rips the heart out of local zoning authority. What, if anything, remains when the Biden administration is done won’t matter, because de facto control over the suburbs will have passed to the federal government,” Kurtz told The Epoch Times on April 12.

Kurtz believes the ultimate goal of advocates of the Biden plan is to eliminate single-family suburban neighborhoods entirely and to replace them with densely packed urban high rises.

This has been coming for a long time. The folks that bought in HOA's thought they were safe.
I have always lived in wildly diverse areas. A few blocks away are million dollar homes and a few blocks away is subsidized housing.
If you can see downtown from your roof you have a little of everything around you............

Same in a small town.... within 3 blocks of my subdivision, of which we have the smallest, least expensive home, is a run down trailer park, a USDA subsidized apartment complex and middle income home with some fairly shack/shanty worthy homes just a block or 2 beyond that.

So how do they accomplish the commandeering of private property to create the high rise utopias? Oh yeah, “no amendment is absolute,” they probably applied to the seizure part of A4 as well...

Just like everything, living in a diverse area should be a choice, not mandated. This is basically school bussing to force diversification. Anything that is forced doesn't really work. Also, people work hard and save to build a home in a certain area and then something that diminishes their home value if mandated by the govt. Won't bne any choices left pretty soon.

Elimination of choice is the heart of Socialism. That is what i think american’s who are pro-socialism do not comprehend. I think they envision a romantic scenario where all their options will still exist, but income and living standards will be generally equal. That’s not how that works. A centralized planner cannot standardize many options, therefore they eliminate all options but 1 or a few.

To your point about housing. You can rest assured the elite will still have their gated enclaves with no federally mandated subsidized housing. THey only want the peasants and middle to upper peasants to mix...

This crap makes me want to puke. As mentioned above people work hard to move to low crime areas. Then they just force the mixing of people back together.

I never understood why they force things like this. Why try so hard non-stop to make everyone equal? We're at the point they want people who choose to not work to be equal with those who work full time.. It's insane.

Exactly Playa. I didn't get into the "elite" aspect but I agree.. There are however different levels and types of elites. There are some on TBH who I would consider elite. At some point, the only elites that will still be "elite", and part of what you mentioned, are those that are part of or strongly plugged in to the government.

you are about to see a white flight like never before. covid just put it on track to happen much quicker with remote working. let them stack the cities and burbs with all the thugs and then we will at least have them concentrated in certain areas.

Similar to legalization of marijuana and 2A sanctuary states, I think there will be some states that pass laws prohibiting the federal government from intruding in state zoning law authority.

Yep it’s going to teach the next generation these terms & meaning unfortunately. They should know by now you can force diversification on people.

All that equivalates to is liberal suburbanites infiltrating generally conservative small town/rural America. One more mission objective accomplished

Yup. Just what I worked all my life for is to live next door to section 8 housing project to make liberals (who would never of think of living there) feel good about themselves.

Most suburbanites do mot want to be I. The country , they barely get by in the burbs.
They wouldn’t know how to live without a restaurant or shopping mall 5 minutes from the door.

                              Should have finished my thoughts
                              Here
You will see families like mine, who are very conservative, prefer to live in the country and only live in the burbs because we have been attached to our careers and where they reside moving out. There are a lot of those that fit that demographic.
