Texas HB 241 - bill to ban AR rifles

FYI - this bill was proposed by Ortega and would make most AR style rifles and shotguns illegal in TEXAS. Contact your reps!

Defines "assault weapons" as semi-automatic centerfire rifles including those with:
    thumbhole stocks
    flash hiders
    telescoping stocks
    and other features

    (C) "a threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer"

    Is...that...even a thing?

I would think that is referencing and grip or handstop mounted to your handguard or some type of rail...?

What about those "protruding conspicuously " pistol grips .

How about a ban on frivolous bills that do nothing but try to invent popularity? You cover all costs associated with it?

An important thing to remember is that the banned “features” from the 94 ban were literally selected by going through catalogs and randomly pointing at things.

These people have no idea what they are talking about. They just know that you being armed is offensive to their authority.

I watch every legislative session. This bill is 99.99% DOA.

It has been submitted to a committee. If the Republican committee chairman does not allow it for discussion, much less a vote, it is over.

According to the legislature webpage, this bill has no authors except Ortega. It has no companion bill in the Senate. The session ends in about 12 weeks and the only action taken on this bill submitted last November is..... nothing except sent to the committee where it will die

Yes stay vigilant but I would be shocked if this even got a hearing in committee, much less a committee vote.

About 20 such bills are filed “every” session and..... never make it out if committee.

If you read the bill it is not just rifles but nearly every semi auto firearm made.

Contact you rep and senator now, even if you know they will vote against it. The more they hear from us, they more courage and fortitude they have against the enemy.

Ha! My magazines aren’t fixed, they are detachable!

Yes this won’t make it out of calendar committee, but that’s not the point, the fact that an elected official in Texas even drafted this and has likely been re-elected more than once is the point.
