    Global warming and climate change

I’d like to gauge what is everyone thoughts on climate change, global warming, humans affect on the environment and what should be done for a sustainable future? Just a little thought experiment.

Earth's climate has changed throughout history. Just in the last 800,000 years, there have been eight cycles of ice ages and warmer periods, with the end of

It's real, and that point isn't really arguable.

I am what I guess you would call a "climate lukewarmer." That means first of all, I think it is reasonable to believe that man's activity has some influence on the climate. However I am very skeptical that those changes are likely to be dangerous - certainly not catastrophically dangerous. This middle-of-the-road view is unacceptable to both ends of the spectrum. It annoys those who think all climate change is natural or just plain made-up. It also of course annoys those who think man-made climate change is going to be the end of all of us.

It especially bothers me that they claim all this is “settled science”, like gravity or the boiling point of water. How is a prediction settled science? Especially a prediction that has been so wrong so far? With a very few exceptions there is nothing scientists can say with certainty about the future. Also the entire movement sounds/feels more like a religion than scientific inquiry both in the way they are impervious to contrary evidence and the way apostates/non-believers are cast out into the darkeness.

well the climate has always been changing so i guess there is some accuracy purely from the term "climate change". is it man made, i don't think so. can we control it? NO. do i want clean air and water? of course. do we need to spend a zillion dollars trying to change something we can't change? NO. in fact every time Humans get involved and try to "fix" it they only make it worse. look at ethanol.
you can show correlation but you can't prove causation. that's because we aren't causing it and we don't control it. it would be very arrogant for any human to believe they can control the climate.
                thats my take.

I would probably agree with this, at least for the most part. How much worse are we making it, that is the question.

Is the world going to explode, implode, turn into a ball of flames in 12 years like they say. If it is we aren't going to change it by using wind and solar so we ought to blow it out both pant legs and live it up.

Seriously, should we pursue green energy? Of course. But more thoughtfully and systematically than we are currently doing, and our policies (Paris Climate Accord) are total garbage and are not really doing anything other than redistributing wealth.

The key word here is "Cyclical"... and no, there's not a **** thing we can do about it.

The Global Warming concept & talking points were failing for the left. Is there global warming? Perhaps, Do we humans contribute to it ? Sure-to a small degree.
Now we deal with climate change, their new talking point. History & science says the Earths climate has been constantly changing forever.
Can we do things to help? Sure
I am more concerned about the trash that is thrown everywhere & polluting all of our waterways. This can be resolved easier than tackling a fake climate change agenda.

This is about where I am at. And sadly, the science gets corrupted by both sides, so we can't ever know the truth.

Trash clean up vs Global warming reminds me of a quote from Ghostbusters.

"I've worked in the private sector, they expect results."

With actual clean up of oceans, rivers, etc you could see tangible results. With climate change you can shuffle documents and money around. Never really prove that the money is giving us what is promised. That is a public sector dream.

I probably fall in with the MadHatter outlook overall.

I don’t know how we can stop a naturally occurring phenomenon. All one has to do is look at history. The climate has always changed. West Texas used to be under water 1000s of years ago.

There's no doubt the pollution we dump into the atmosphere, oceans, landfills, etc are having a cumulative and negative affect on our planet and its climate.

No I don't think the polar ice caps are gonna melt next week and flood the earth.

However I do think we need to wise up and take common sense steps to start changing our approach.
That said nothing government does is ever any sense much less common sense.
