If they don’t track you or sell your information, how do they exist? I just downloaded it and it was super simple. I’ve seen it recommended here several times but I’m ignorant when it comes to technology. Does it block pop ups and viruses or stuff like that? Give me the scoop. Thanks

I read the following, but not sure how true it is as I'd think they would have to track your activity after leaving the site to quantify their affiliate revenue:
Originally posted by FourWeekMBA.comDuckDuckGo makes money in two simple ways: Advertising and Affiliate Marketing. Advertising is shown based on the keywords typed into the search box. Affiliate revenues come from Amazon and eBay affiliate programs. When users buy after getting on those sites through DuckDuckGo the company collects a small commission.

I've done searches for tools, parts and materials on DDG and Google to compare results and have saved a significant amount because Google came up with places to buy DDG didn't. Now I've only done this three or four times but I saved 15% or more each time.

Yes, DuckDuckGo is certainly nowhere near as powerful a search engine as google. Google has been in the game forever, has a huge employee base and tons of money to ensure its engine is top dog. Given a large enough user base and time, DDG may become as powerful, assuming it doesn't decide to sell your data along the way.
