The story is misleading to me.

It says they've found this mutation to create more viral load, yet it somehow is resistant to hand washing and masks wearing? It seems like a person would just be shedding more virus. Not that it somehow became stronger.

This is the normal and natural progression for viruses. They evolve to become less deadly. If the host dies, the spread the virus is stopped. Over time the mutations that survive are less deadly. This is why number of cases and contagiousness are not the big concern. The rate of hospitalisations and deaths are the big concerns, and they are both dropping fast around the world. This why the CDC just announced that if you're under 70 the the infection fatality rate is less than the annual flu. Great job President Trump!
