TX Republicans tell Gov to end all Covid Mandates

The No-Compromise Texas Republican Party Resolution Telling the Republican Governor to Immediately End His Entire Coronavirus Crackdown

The Republican Party of Texas executive committee has taken a heroic action that could serve as an example for Republican and Democratic parties across America. It has adopted, by a 54 to 4 vote, a resolution clearly and emphatically demanding that Texas Governor Greg Abbott immediately end all the liberty-repressing measures that, over the last six months while the state legislature has been in recess, Abbott has imposed unilaterally in the name of countering coronavirus.

The rebuke and demand of the resolution are particularly strong given that they come from Abbott’s own party.

The resolution repeatedly and strongly condemns state and local government measures taken in Texas purportedly to counter coronavirus. It states, for example, that “egregious government overreach has resulted in unthinkable depredations upon the people of Texas, including millions left unemployed, countless businesses bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy, nursing home residents dying alone and isolated, lives ruined and dreams destroyed.”

The resolution concludes with this strong and clear demand:

Therefore be it resolved, the Republican Party of Texas calls on Gov. Greg Abbott to immediately rescind all COVID-related mandates, closures, and restrictions and to open Texas NOW. A copy of this resolution shall be sent by the Republican Party of Texas to the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Republican State Senators, and Republican State Representatives.

Guess we will see what happens. Seems to be a positive move in the right direction.

I like it but expect it to fall on deaf ears. Abbott is a sell out. This year has totally changed my opinion of him.

            Yep. Completely changed.

Apparently he isn't going to budge until the Legislature gets back into session next year. I look forward to voting for whoever his opponent is in the next primary.

Good. Wish it didn't take so long for them to do so, but glad to see it. Abbott is a joke and needs to go. When he runs for president, he is going to get blasted for this.

But at least his puppet masters in California and New York love him. He will have a place to go when he's kicked out of office.

Glen, you got any scoop on who may try to primary him? I'd vote for just about anybody that's a Repulsican to oust him... even Crenshaw, though he probably would sell out at the state level like he has at the national level...

I wish Montgomery county judge Mark Keough would run for Governor but he may not be known enough yet to make it in 2022. His stance against Grabbott during this fiasco is the kind of thinking we needed on the state level. I also like how he is not afraid to call it like he sees it.

Yep, he would be a good choice. It would take a pretty expensive campaign to get him known by enough folks outside our immediate area... Heck I thought we had the chance to primary out Cornin, but just not enough time/money to get the name out there...

Somebody needs to get started quick to start the process of unseating him.
