I don’t want to be the test case but I would say it’s a pretty good deadly force self-defense situation.
An easy defense against a laser would be to simply shut your eyes or turn your back however that allows your attacker to do anything to you because you could now not to feed yourself. It is no different than a person taking a police officers Tase in pointing it at him (except in Atlanta). If the guy deploys the Taser he can incapacitate the officer and the officer can no longer offer any self-defense. That is generally held to be a lawful use of deadly force in self defense. A laser in the eyes had a similar effect of not allowing you self-defense.
