      They had control 2009 - 2011 and didn't get rid of it.

      Abolishing the Electoral College would require an amendment to the U.S. Constitution — which would need a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and the Senate, and then it would have to be ratified by 38 states.

        Wonder when the last time that was actually taught in school?... Heck, Obama created laws and just spoke 'em into existence and they've been upheld by the SCOTUS... A little ol' nuisance like the EC will be just done away with by executive order...

          The trouble is our elected leaders are making these decisions without a vote. They need to be removed from office.
          By whatever means necessary.

              You probably shouldn't bring up the one thing "we" including law enforcement protected when "they" tore down hundreds or thousands of other statues etc...

              You have to know each and every statue removed had vast meaning to some people. We should all be protecting all statues, period.

              Maybe for each one "they" take down we should take down a MLK street sign or a statue of theirs?

                    The Democratic Party is far more left and radical than they were in 2009

                      Mount Rushmore statues to be torn down.

                      The below was written by my Dad as a commentary article for a local newspaper, about three years ago. I believe he titled it “When Will it End”:

                      Following is a facetious commentary written about extreme activities precipitated in the name of
                      political correctness - or maybe not. Since this was written, there has been an ongoing and growing effort to abolish any vestiges or evidence of the Confederacy or the institution of slavery, including and up to the removal of statue(s) of Sam Houston, who once owned a slave. For some reason akin to the old "Teacher, teacher, don't whip me...", the South has been targeted much as during Reconstruction despite the fact that almost since the earliest settling of the North American continent, many leaders and wealthier citizens owned slaves.

                      One may ask, "When or where will it stop?" Locally, it would not be outside the realm of the "political correctness police" to demand a renaming of Fort Hood, which was so named in honor of Confederate general John Bell Hood. Guys, it's over. One can only surmise and try to imagine the reasons these "Rebels" fought, and obviously there are many different reasons. Let it rest...

                      Due to recent events, a consortium of futurists convened to brainstorm the question: "Where will this all end - and what might the U.S. look like in fifteen years?" As in any brainstorm session, only suggestions most likely to come about were recorded. Herewith are their projections...

                      Dateline April 15, 2030...Washington D.C. "REPORT TO CONGRESS"

                      History: In late 2015 Congress appointed a select committee comprised of individuals representing every minority, ethnic group, religion, educator, and political party in the U.S. - as well as a cross section of the homeless. Its mission was to identify, address, and facilitate the removal of anything that offended anyone anytime for whatever reason. This committee was seen as a more efficient and effective method to do so since the historic sequence of petitions, demonstrations, legislative proposals and actions had become cumbersome and interfered with the Legislature's two day work week. Following is the committee's 2030 Report to Congress:

                      "Finally, the United States is approaching the end stages of its strict enforcement of political correctness - and it has been a monumental struggle. A successful movement that began with the removal of all reproductions, images and references to the Confederate battle flag back in 2015 snowballed to the point that U.S. citizens and non-citizen residents, whether legal or illegal, can soon gaze upon a landscape that is no longer cluttered with reminders of individuals or their actions that may in any way offend or might have offended even the most sensitive of us. Yes, the criteria has been strict: Regardless of an individual's other overwhelming contributions to the greater good, any comment or act - no matter how insignificant - or the stigma or rumor thereof has prompted the nation's banishing of anything referencing such person to the ash can of history, and that can has been sealed shut.

                      Capitalizing on their early success with the flag issue, self-anointed citizen judges seized the moment and assailed reeling officials, politicos, educators and bureaucrats with waves of documentation validating that certain "unsavory characters, acts and events" must be scrubbed from U.S. history. The next successful effort involved statues, publications or anything symbolic of those in the southern cause or any individuals committing any other perceived social injustices.

                      (Locally, in 2017 the statue of Col. ESC Robertson was removed from its place in Salado, Texas, along with the one commemorating Confederate heroes in Belton. They were recycled for road fill in the soon to be completed Interstate 35 project through Salado, which long anticipated finale is projected for early 2035. Also, the area's military base, previously known as Fort Hood and named after Confederate general, John Bell Hood, was renamed Camp Wobegon.)

                      The effort progressed to the renaming of any thoroughfares, buildings, logos, mascots, coalitions, associations, art, children, pets, or any other item or element that might remind anyone of the Confederacy as well as any perceived negative references, direct or oblique, to self proclaimed minorities in naming institutions, athletic teams, fraternities, and supporters thereof. This created a tidal wave of identification and enforcement against all violators of political correctness, including current or historic acts and/or statements by individuals, legislators, the judiciary, and presidents, including Harry Truman. Successes were the removal, destruction or modification of:

                      ...All vestiges of songs and singers who "glorified" sin, adultery or promiscuous behavior, including Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Madonna, and many other accused and condemned musicians. Gates to Dollywood (Best Little Whorehouse...) were shuttered forever;
                      ...all entertainers that parodied or glamorized violence against minorities like Jim Reeves (for "Mexican Joe"), Ray Charles and Willie Nelson (for actions described in "Seven Spanish Angels") and Al Jolson (for "Mammy") - thus, Red Foxx, Charlie Chan, Cheech and Chong, Tonto, Little Beaver, Archie Bunker, Jerry Seinfeld, Amos and Andy...all gone. In 2017 the statute of Willie Nelson in Austin, Texas, was dropped by helicopter into Lady Bird Lake where it became covered with sediment and trash. During the lake's annual cleanups the statue was declared off limits by the Texas legislature - with the governor's support - and the same groups that monitored Jade Helm in Bastrop perpetually assure the statue's contaminated resting place;
                      ...Walt Disney productions and the studios, as well as Disneyland, were vilified and shut down due to representations of Uncle Remus in "Song of the South", and all other works by Joel Chandler Harris were subjected to a public burning as were all works by Samuel Clemons, aka Mark Twain, due to their alleged offensive or derogatory portrayal of minorities;
                      ...the renamed "Five Flags Over Texas" amusement parks were closed until Confederate symbols were removed. "Dixie", Dixie Chicks' songs and Dixie Cup products were banned in the U.S.;
                      ...theaters were permanently closed for productions of River Boat that incorporated "Old Man River" in Black dialect. Productions of Porgy and Bess drew the same retaliation;
                      ...because of alleged potential racial undertones, the Cleveland Browns are now the Rainbows;
                      ...George Carlin was disinterred and his remains placed in a rocket and crashed on Pluto, and all works by Adam Sandler were abolished at the request of New Mexico's Native Americans;
                      ... Whole foods, HEB, Walmart and others were fined severely for being open during Ramadan.

                      Perhaps the hardest fought struggle will be culminated in the upcoming Independence Day celebratory event in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Explosive charges have been set at Mount Rushmore into the faces of Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt* - the former for his indiscretions with a slave and the latter for his involvement in the allegedly illegitimate Spanish American War. Engineers have assured that for those two images, after triggering the chain of explosions, nothing will remain but blank spots in the huge sculpture - eventually to be filled with carved religious homilies approved by leaders of the newly formed National Obligatory Church of the U.S. (A decision on the fate of the image of George Washington, slave owner, is pending.)

                      At approximately the same time, the new channel rerouting the Rio Grande River north to join the Brazos River at Waco will be completed. The combined waterway will then become the border between Texas and Mexico, and all lands south of it will be ceded to Mexico as reparations for alleged U.S. confiscations during the Mexican War. Next year, much of Appalachia and Nebraska will be ceded to descendants of the tribes who were forced into Indian Territory, now Oklahoma - however their oil company and casino dividends will continue. The name Andrew Jackson will be abolished from Webster's new politically correct dictionary - a severely edited volume reduced to 30 pages. In the Southwest, memorials to Catholics who subjugated and enslaved Native Americans were toppled or destroyed and buried. In 2022, much of New Mexico and Arizona were ceded to descendants of Hispanics whose Spanish land grants were taken in the United States' 1800s westward expansion. California was ceded to families of interred Japanese. Note: In 2023 the U.S. treasury declared bankruptcy after awarding reparations to anyone claiming discrimination of any ancestor(s) at any time in the history of the U.S. A notarized claim was sufficient for validation. Treasury is now generating bitcoins to fund the government.

                      We are pleased to report that much of the work of this committee is done; however, like other government agencies it will remain in perpetual existence so that anyone feeling offended by anything at anytime can obtain swift action by sending such notification accompanied by a self addressed, stamped envelope or e-mailing this committee at what has happened to the US?.org.

                      *There was a precedent: In 2015, The NAACP chapter in Atlanta, Georgia, began the movement against offending sculptures by demanding the destruction of a famous, engraved Confederate depiction near their city. The largest bas-relief in the world, sculpted on the north face of Stone Mountain represents Confederate leaders Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. An option was to have images of Outkast’s Big Boi and Andre 3000, Atlanta’s most beloved hip-hop duo, carved alongside the soldiers."

                        I’m sure Sam Houston in Huntsville is on the menu.

                        I’m a lumberjack but I’ll be on the front lines if they come for Sam. Not sure if a bearcat would do the same if they head to Nac looking for Austin’s head![emoji6]

                          If?

                          They will have the white house and house in January. They will have the SCOTUS(basically, they already do) in the next 4 years. They will have the Senate in 2022 or 2024.

                          They will then have a lock for the next few decades.

                          It is over and most folks don't realize it.

                            They are only getting stronger and more organized for sure. I don’t see them winning the White House in November though. If it’s a Democrat controlled Congress we can expect 4 more years of impeachment, corruption, investigations, and nothing getting done for Americans

                              Man there’s some doom and gloom here. I felt the same way about a decade ago, wondering how republicans could ever win the White House or have the majority in the house or senate again. The along came Trump who was saying what many were thinking but too scared to say out loud and no other politician would dare to voice the same opinions. Many are still terrified and refuse to learn from him and take his lead. Don’t get me wrong, I too and highly concerned about the direction of this country and the happenings that are being allowed in our streets today. My hope at this time is the left keeps going so far left that any sane person could not vote for any person perpetuating the actions we view today.

                              In times like this I always think back to a time before me. 2 decades after a generation returned home from war what they must have thought watching hippies across the country partaking in drugs, free love and dodging the draft. It had to have appeared to them that the this countries time was limited with what our youth had become.

                              I’ll keep showing up trying to vote out rino’s in primaries and voting republican during elections.
