defunding austin pd?

I read an article this evening where there is a proposal to defund Austin Pd now. The article read that they were going to put on it thursday. i’m not sure if that’s today or wait from now. you can Google the details but there are significant cuts if it passes. I know Austin is a liberal city in our state but surely if this won’t pass.

Yep. It was today. I didn’t even listen. If they go through with it it will end up costing the city millions. They will just not run cadet classes. This will cause more shift shortages. Shifts hire overtime. It happened in early 2000 time frame. I made more than my Lt and Captain (now Commanders) combined. I was young and money driven. I would come home once or twice a week and worked 16-18 hrs every day. We didn’t have overtime policies really. For two years straight every one of my checks had over 100 OT hours on it I’m almost positive.

I slept in my truck and plugged either a heater or window unit and attached it to window of truck. Plugged in with extension cord. Showered inside the sub station. It was a free for all to make OT$$$$. I took advantage of it and now my family and I are in a better place but still not sure if it was worth it. Missed a lot of time. Birthdays- Christmas- sleeping in my bed.

True but the patriots will be labeled as criminals. Especially if they act alone or in small groups. They will be the ones hunted down by law enforcement, arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned. Their families will lose everything and they will sacrifice their life and freedom for their acts of patriotism.
How many will do that?

That city council went into that meeting in lock-step with each other on the votes. 100% agreement with each other. The PD never had a chance. And if I heard right this morning, they took away all non-lethal forms of control. So now if something goes down the officers are left with only night sticks (do they still carry those?) and sidearms. I hope they use both! Real smart folks on that council...

We should be increasing police budgets. I'd sure like to see more officers around.

Chance- Still can use less lethal just not in crowd situations (I’m guessing). Yes we still carry riot sticks but went to bean bags, CS gas, pepper spray, etc because of the actual structural damages done to people with a hickory stick.
It is all moving on emotions right now- Knee jerk type decisions- And just my opinion not fully educated opinions - It is a Capital city and those are always a little strange
