    Abbott Job Approval

What are y'all's thoughts on how Abbott is doing with this pandemic? First, how did he handle the initial outbreak and second, how is he handling the return to work?

Personally, considering the information he had when he made certain decisions, I think he's doing a great job. He said his task force team has recognized the 3 highest risk areas - meat packing plants, elderly living areas, and prisons. Steps going forward will address these risk areas.

I know people are frustrated but I think he did well.

Works for me as I seriously doubt any other politician or wanna-be armchair politician could have done any better. No frustration on my part. Folks will and have the right to whine about "sunshine on a beautiful beach"...….lol!

I feel it was government overreach & he is taking too long to get the state up & moving again. At this point I would not vote for him again if there was a candidate I felt was better.

He’s a constitutional conservative until he gets scared. Texas is not a place for the scared and definitely not the place for government overreach. I find it comical he’s playing the hero by ordering the release of the salon owner who was arrested over an edict he handed down.

Duh, I would hope you'd always vote for the best candidate.

BTW, I like what he did. Now, knowing better, I bet he reacts somewhat differently the next time, and, there will be a next time.

I think hes done great, compared to the crackhead we have here in Kansas. I wish we had S Dakotas governor.

Most all our political leaders are a joke. The socialist leaders of Sweden have more balls in regards to a virus, than our great leaders. That is scary

Imagine just for a minute what it would be like with a Democrat for governor.
                  Yeah, I thought so.

Hypocritical to say the least. He puts jail time as a punishment in his unlawful order and then tries to play the hero when one of the judges uses it. What a crock of crap. Been very disappointed in all of this and how it was handled, been saying for months this was all being over blown and not any worse than the seasonal flu that we dont destroy economies over. All of this mess is self inflicted and millions are on the govt tit now because the ball less leaders were scared to take a stand and do what was right.

Unprecedented times where there is no historical model to follow. I think he is doing an outstanding job compared to some other other state’s governors and even other countries in the public health aspect.
State Comparison of the 5 most populous states:
Population - confirmed cases - deaths
                      California. 39.5mm - 60.6K - 2.5K
                      Texas. 29mm - 35.4K - 1K
                      Florida. 21.5mm - 38.3K - 1.7K
                      New York. 19.5mm - 327.7K - 21K
                      Pennsylvania 12.8mm - 52.9K- 2.4K
So Texas has the fewest deaths with the second largest population.

Here is a comparison of Texas to Sweden
Texas Population - confirmed cases - deaths
                      29mm - 35.4K - 1K
Sweden Population - confirmed cases - deaths
                      10.2mm - 25.3K - 3.2K
So Sweden has 1/3 the population but 3 times the number of deaths.

IMHO, you can’t argue with these numbers. Outstanding!

Except that Sweden will have herd immunity and we will drag this crap out into the fall and winter and likely get locked down again and lose more freedoms. Mission accomplished

Do we have herd immunity from the flu or do people need to get vaccinated every year?

I don't think most people understand the term "herd immunity".

It happens when you vaccinate the entire herd with the knowledge that 1-2% of the population will not benefit from the vaccine. The 98% of the herd is benefiting and by doing so, it prevents exposure to the 2%.

But we still vaccinate the entire herd. Every year.
