    Unemployment

Have any independent contractors been able to claim the unemployment? My wife is a esthetician and was ordered not to work a while back by governor. She has applied for benefits and received a letter saying she qualifies for $0 as did the other women that work in her building. Doesn’t seem fair governor can shut her down then disqualify her from benefits?

Depends on how much she claimed as income on her taxes last year and did she pay unemployment insurance while she was working.

That I’m not entirely sure. I know she had a profit. I understood part of the stimulus package was for people going through this exact thing. Maybe not same industry but independent contractors who were ordered closed.

I believe she will have to get one of those small business loans. Unemployment is considered an insurance that is paid in your name. If she was not paying any she cant draw. I think

Well the small business loan dried up and she can’t apply. I for some reason thought there was something passed where she would qualify for unemployment benefits. Talk about a kick in the groin.

I know a woman who filed for unemployed as an independent contractor. All she did for "work" was occasionally sell stuff on Facebook marketplace for a guy she knows. She's getting $800/wk in unemployment. Probably the most money she's ever made.
