Mayors ask to take back control

The mayors council of Parker County have formally asked the governor to let counties make decisions to reopen based on their local situation. Our county only has 140k citizens and 22 cases. There are a lot of counties much less populous than ours. Think Abbott will do it?

I think Abbott is an open minded guy and will give a lot of leeway where he can. It's time to open up the economy and Abbott knows that.

If Abbott wants any chance for my vote in 2022 he better reverse these BS orders ASAP.

Fwiw. My wife was informed yesterday that she will be going back to work in 2 weeks.

I suppose things will be getting back to normal sooner than later.

If he wants to keep his job he will, if not then no.. Or maybe he doesn't realize just how fed up the people of this state are.. A lot of People are sick and tired of being lied to.. Trump had better watch his azz also.. People are fed up with this nonsense and constant lies... 29,000,000 population in this state with just 623 deaths does not even begin to justify what has happened to the people of this state and its economy!!
Stop acting like we are New York City!!

Just at the mention of going back to elective and other surgeries, my wife's hospital's OR schedule is packed for next week... The nurses and other staff and been told they will likely be able to get all the hours they want to work. She did not get furloughed on this current 7 day hitch.

I am really hoping he makes a bold move tomorrow. If he lets the mayors decide there will be a few holdouts in the big cities. He can override them all by opening the state up asap.

You can maybe make a case for slower easing in big population centers but any one-size-fits-all solution for the entire state makes no sense. I also think they need to give the average citizen more credit for making wise decisions. You can bet that for a good while, people will continue to distance voluntarily to the degree that makes them comfortable. (There will be idiots of course) Places like nursing homes probably won’t change back for a long long time

West Texas mayors sent a similar letter to Abbott earlier in the week. He really needs to listen and comply. Big government lock downs are not a good look for a supposed conservative. I can understand (a little) the initial reaction to the doomsday predictions early on, but it's clear now that all of that was overblown. Government needs to get out of the way so the private sector can fix their mess.

Definitely needs to be a local level decision and population is a key indicator of how to proceed.

I'm a little hesitant on mayors/county judges making these types of decisions at this point based on some of the boneheaded stunts they have pulled. I do think their input should be considered, but its obvious that many of them have overstepped their bounds at this point. I definitely think the governor needs to take the lead on re-opening the state and not rely solely on local politicians at this point in case they want to buck the system. It look like the leaders in Parker County are looking to do the right thing for their citizens.

Those talking about voting for others in place of Abbott be careful what you think you will get in his place. Abbott has been a good Governor and he is on board for opening up.
Same thing for Trump but on a much larger scale imo.
Who do you think would be a better president for the US come November?
What ever your answer might be remember they will have the advantage of hind sight and not be on record for how they handled it.
Remember Trump didn't shut down the economy but had to support erring on the side of caution.
