The economy is great for established people. For people with certain skill sets or education. Most young people don't have that.
Especially inner city, low income family children. They have little hope of escaping or improving that in many of our large cities.
Opportunity is not distributed equally any more than intelligence or athletic ability.
At what point do you blame the parents, or parent?
I can see your argument more on a global scale, but for people fortunate to be born in American there is absolutely room for improving yourself, and future generations.
I agree batman because I did. Hard work and willingness to do whatever it takes goes a long way. However I know that I caught a few breaks and opportunities along the way that gave me a path to succeed on. Not everyone get those.
That's why I say I've been been blessed.
His parents? Yeah they're a mess but he's worked with me in my business and learned a lot.
Parenting is important but in the end young people walk their own path. Any group of young men should know it's wrong to kick the **** out of a girl. A whole different mentality in the inner city gang environment.

It's my son in law and he works a minimum of 48 hours a week. Usually 60. They live in a 2 bedroom/ one bath rent house with no wall insulation. Diabetes meds and equipment costs him $600 a month out of pocket even with the health insurance they take $150 a week out of his check for.
But I see a lot of young people in similar situations. Working warehouse jobs or as semi skilled workers for less than a living wage.

So playing devil’s advocate, what exactly is a “living wage”? Has he checked into any assistance programs for his medications?
What skill set does he have? Is he able to do physical labor (construction)? Do he have a positive career path where he is working?

He makes just enough to not qualify for assistance.
He works for a tire service company. He is actually supposed to get his own outlet in Weatherford soon.
He has some mechanical skills as well.
In the old days families took care of their own.
These inner city kids and young adults have a whole industry creating excuses for them. Many people have come from those crappy circumstances and become much better than average citizens. Some are the best of the best of us.
