Honest Question About Iran?

I heard this mentioned yesterday and it really got me wondering.
What great things have come our of Iran in the past 30 years that were of influence elsewhere in the world? Aside from the joke reply's, I'm sure there has to be something significance? This DOES NOT include Iranian nationals and so forth...but came directly out of Iran. Does anyone know?

Medical advancements?
Music pieces?
Movies?
Novels?
Scientist?
Doctors?
Automobiles?
Textile advancements?
Etc Etc..

Nothing since the revolution. In the early 1980s I lived in an apartment complex in Arlington. I got to be friends with two brothers who lived next door - Medhi and Masood. They were from a wealthy family in Iran - if I remember right their dad ran the Shah's treasury department. They had been over here studying engineering at UTA when the revolution happened - the Shah was deposed and their father was "disappeared". Without money they had to drop out of school and were getting by working as taxi drivers. They told me stories and showed me pictures of what life was like in pre-revolution Iran. The cities were quite westernized, popular music and art - many women dressed like Americans and Europeans. There were lots of highly educated westernized Iranians who disliked the oppressive regime of the Shah and wanted him overthrown. They wanted to replace him with a more democratic system. The problem is they threw in with the Ayatollah's radicals to get it done. When the Shah bolted, the religious radicals kicked the democracy advocates to the curb or jailed them. (many fled the country) So then started 30+ years of oppression at home and terror abroad. Hopefully one day the people will rise up and retake their country. Of course every time they try, people die. Just a couple months ago the government mowed down over 1,500 protesters.

And as far as what worthy things have come out? I say nothing and it is applicable to the greater majority of the Muslim sector.

Not much makes it out of a totalitarian controlled nation-state. I’m sure there are some brilliant people with brilliant ideas, but they not their ideas get to leave. Nor do they get to benefit of the shared knowledge of their peers.
