Betting there has not been a red button for a while

"A new intercontinental weapon that can fly 27 times the speed of sound became operational Friday, Russia’s defense minister reported to President Vladimir Putin, bolstering the country’s nuclear strike capability"
    from AP
As far as tactical response, I would guess that the president has been out of the decision loop for quite some time. I do wonder if this task has not been turned over to an AI by us or one of the other big 3.

Speaking of, AI will be taking over my job as a systems recovery engineer in 5 years. I am one up on AI as I retire in 2 years

    27x mach1? Let's see some proof, Vladimir.

I was thinking about it. Seems all they are doing is adding the ability alter course of warhead during re-entry so mach 27 might be good number. I do no know how much ability any of the 3 powers have in manipulating course of warhead during re-entry. Not my field of expertise. No matter it does not seem we have time for a human to decide how to answer threat.

That's roughly 20,000 mph, pretty fast, and I'd bet its been operational for a good while.

Doesn't really matter if the Russians still can't intercept regular ICBMs (something we've both been trying to do for decades and failing at). Still plenty of time from them firing these new missiles to our ICBMs leaving their silos.

Still a game of mutually assured destruction.

If I remember correctly our space launches reach 17k or more MPH before actually entering space. So why would strapping a nuke on top be a difficult deal?

See, and everyone laughed at Trumps Space Force. It was already in play, he knew.

Satellites orbiting 124 miles above earth are moving around 17,400 mph. You have to accelerate them to that speed to get them into orbit. To escape earths gravity it takes 25,000 mph. We have sent several satellites out of earths orbit.
Now, moving them into atmosphere at that speed without them incinerating, I am not so sure.

(not a scientist, just checked on wiki for speed numbers.)

I'm sure the guys on the USAF bases that have been re-assigned to the new Space Force already got this under control![emoji289][emoji106][emoji289]
