Sales Taxes Going Up!

Factually incorrect about the founding fathers only intending for property owners to vote. A few of them did think this but were shut down. Sales tax is better than property and income tax because it doesn't matter if you're illegal and selling drugs with no property, you still pay taxes. I'm not sure if people pay attention to the way their senator or representative votes but if they do they will do, they will discover that their is very little difference between a republican and a democrat. Both of them only vote for their donors not their constituents.

Not true. Just look at the recent vote to pass SB2. All republicans voted for the measure except for the numbskull from Amarillo. All democrats voted against it except for one coward who just voted present. In other words, those from a Republican majority district voted the way the majority of their constituents wanted. And apparently the democrats voted similarly. Party affiliation and constituents preference are much stronger considerations than campaign donations.

When you own your property it’s just a term to make you feel good.
Because you just continue on paying rent to the government. Stop paying rent and they take it from you.

Paying increased taxes including school taxes due to a mass population increases due to illegal immigration is even more ridiculous.

No matter how it happens or what we do, the people that do not pay a cent in taxes, property taxes or anything else, need to be made to pay. they only way I see this happening is with a consumption tax. These illegals have to buy things and if the consumption tax is there then they will contribute something. Right now they do not contribute ANYTHING and they take one hell of a lot of our money from free crap that no one lese gets. Free health care, free tax returns when they have not paid a penny into it, free college tuition in some states and drivers license to be able to vote for the scumbag liberals into office that promise this free crap! Am I ******, YES!

Why do people think renters do not pay property tax?
Do you not think propery taxes are not factored into their rent?
Just because they do not cut a check directly to the CAD does not mean they do not pay property tax.

Same for income taxes.
Some illegals have income taxes taken out of their pay
Now if that money makes it to uncle Sam is up to the honesty of the employer
But the employee has paid their part

I think all taxes should have to be played by a hand written check once a month.. If people actually had to write a check for it there wouldn't be all this talk of wanting socialism.

I'm seriously considering moving out of state because of property taxes and sales tax. I'm retired now and most states with a state income tax do not include social security in taxable income. I haven't figured out which state would be best but I'm looking. Texas is doing it's best to run people off.

I tell this to people all the time. I suggest Quarterly payments, but the premise is the same. One of the dirtiest tricks ever pulled on us was "withholding." It numbed the citizenry to theft (taxation).

I am totally in support of a sales tax increase and a drastic property tax decrease. It was quietly proposed last session as well, but really seems to be gaining steam this go around. I am just happy that sales tax vs. property tax is being discussed out in the open. It's in the news, it's being talked about at business, in homes. It's a great start. Because ultimately, like others have said, sales tax is the "fairest" way to capture tax revenue. Our property taxes are ****ing outrageous and need to be capped. We shouldn't be funding schools this way either... it creates a wide gap in the level of education for these kids.

The problem with sales tax in lieu of property tax is that they've already said only 80% of the sales tax revenue would go towards reducing property tax. I don't trust the legislature to stick to that. Before you know it, it will be 50% and then nothing. They can reduce property tax without increasing sales tax but they have already voted to spend the majority of the 9 billion dollar surplus on other stuff.
