Just have to make it easier for these people that want to be here and contribute to do it legally in a timely manner up front. Has to be a way to have them vetted and gain their citizenship in a proper amount of time that is beneficial to our system.
On a basic human level it is hard not to have some sympathy for these people. They are working a job and supporting their families. On the other hand, they broke the law (s) and have suffer the consequences. I agree that the employer needs to be hammered. There is a simple fix that would go a long way but sadly there is not enough political will to get it done. That simple fix is making E-Verify mandatory for all employers. That law has never gotten near enough votes on the federal level and even in Texas it is only required for public agencies and universities. A more liberal workers permit/green card policy is fine - we need the workers - but there is little to no attempt to track them after they are here. A huge percentage of our current illegal population were here legally at some point but after their work visas expire they just blend in and no effort is made to find them

Snowflakes. Why should we have any sympathy for those who are here illegally and breaking the law. One our nations top 3 problems if I had to guess.
Sympathy is gonna destroy us.
They bring it on themselves, yet we're supposed to care ?
Maybe I missed something in the story. What is the sympathy for?
Did they swoop up a bunch of legals by accident?
Not only did they disregard our immigration laws by entering the country illegally, they also falsified employment documents (fake social security number) and more than likely banking and loan documents.
I guess I shouldn't have said "it's hard not to have some sympathy" It isn't hard, many don't have a bit of sympathy. I happen to think it is possible to hold both of these views at the same time:
1) Border and immigration laws should be stringently enforced and those who are here illegally should be sent back to wherever they came from. Those that knowingly hire them should be punished.
2) Many of these people are hard-working, law-abiding (other than being border jumpers) and contribute to society in a positive way. Anybody that lives in Texas knows or has had interactions with illegals that could be described this way.
I'm going to put this in caps so you don't miss it:
EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY BE HARD WORKING, GOOD PEOPLE THEY STILL HAVE TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF BREAKING THE LAW
The problem is, we as a country (at least our lawmakers) are not serious about stopping it. The illegal immigrants know it is just a game - a game they are willing to play - so they will continue to come until we get serious.

Yep, they are also taking American's jobs. Why hire a legal citizen when you can get illegal labor much cheaper. Then the employer also treats them worse and provides them poorer working conditions and safety isnt an issue.

There needs to be extreme penalties for this.
Fake news here on tbh. Illegals only take jobs that lazy Americans don't want. They also don't drive down the labor costs. I'm not hackin' on you. Hackin' on the tbh sympathizers that argue these points. Guess it makes them feel better when they hire illegals.
The employer that hired them will get hammered. The last big raid/arrest made 10 years ago, that employer was found guilty and sentenced to 27 years in prison.

I sympathize with their plite, it has to suk living in a third world dump. Bult.( like.you mentioned) there must be consequences all around. Fact is at the moment we have more available jobs than able bodied workers ( according to the jacked up way our gov. Collects data) so sure we need people. The only way things are going to change, politicians get serious about immigration is one of these powerful people are.going to have to loose a loved one at the hands of an illegal. Hell it might take a dozen or more before they get serious

This is fake news! I'm a home builder and hire only subcontractors that are American citizens. My homes cost more because labor is higher. It's getting harder and harder to get jobs because of it. The average builder is paying illegals $10-12 per hour. You can't make a decent living at that and that's why young people don't want to do this type of work. If they were all shipped back to Mexico tomorrow housing prices would skyrocket and you'd see the younger generation wanting to do manual labor for good wages. I was paying subs more money 20 years ago than these guys are making now. If they were invading other professions the way they are construction people would be screaming that their cutting in to their pay checks.
