For generations, “Texas Democrat” defined people that were basically conservative, somewhat populist and largely blue collar. Their stated mission was standing up for the “common man” against the elite and corporate interests. However over the last 30+ years the party moved so far left it pushed many of them into registering as republicans or independents. The people and their principals didn’t change, the party did.

All you have to do is pay attention to how one party trys to destroy good men like justice Thomas and Kavanaugh and how they ignore people like Keith Ellison's accuser and the differences are right in front of your eyes.
The dem party is full of evil despicable people.

Exactly what I was going to say. I was raised this way but now with the 'new democrat", I am no longer on that side. The old democrats hates the idiots that are out there now.

I think it was Reagan, when he was asked as a republican candidate for Governor why he switched parties in the 60s, that said "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, it left me". That's happened in Texas over the last 20 years too.

Reagan was the first Republican that my grandparents ever voted for and voted straight Republican until their deaths. They were diehard democrats before then, but just couldn't vote for a party so far from their core values. I think that sort of thing has happened a lot in Texas.

yep, same here; only it was my dad. I will never forget him saying that his dad would be turning over in his grave if he knew that he voted for Reagan.
but those were different days also, the dems weren't socialist commies.

Once upon a time Republicans used to be a party of limited government and low tax/low spend. Democrats were the opposite with big government, high tax/high spend.

Now, both parties are for high spending they just argue over what to spend it on...Republicans want military domination and Democrats want big social programs. Republicans are still low tax (most of the time) and believe that this will spur growth (trickle down) and make up the shortfall in tax revenue...jury is still out on if this works or not. Democrats are still high tax.

As far as size of Government goes, both parties are pro big Government...Republicans, surprisingly want Government to tell you what you can and cannot do socially, Democrats want Government to tell you what you can and cannot do both fiscally & wrt the 2nd Amendment.

That's pretty much the Cliff's notes...I know I'm painting with a broad brush but I think that's a pretty good modern snapshot.

DA raves are very partisan, as are Judges. For example. A republican DA my push harsher charges on a drug dealer that has been busted once and just got pinched again for beating his old lady... Thats 2 strikes.. A Dem DA MAY (for all you snowflakes out there that are going to cry about this) decide to pursue lesser charges on the same drug dealer because he was only caught with a pound or two on his first conviction. likely gets 30 days in county and has to take an anger management class..

This. They are no longer opposing parties, they are competing parties.
