LePen surge only got her 34.1% of the votes............huge turnout for the election at over 75%. Our last presidential election only got 58% turnout in comparison. LePen already conceded with a short speech, sure the impact will not go un-noted. Macron will be interesting to watch!

France as we know it is gone. Time will tell what it will become. Hopefully Britain will be able to save its identity by pulling out of the EU. I would like to see U.S. commitments re-evaluated and our military commitments to Muslim states in Europe re-assessed as well.Comment

And yes Islamic extremists must and will be defeated. But the French chose the one that they believe will fight the battle honorably. Yes honor and compassion. Those still matter to some.Comment

It applies based on how a voter perceives the candidate pool. LePen was perceived as "alt right!" Macron has leaned mighty far left in some of his speeches. Economically and socially she is about on par with what you would expect a European politician to be.
