That is a common prevailing sentiment among progressives, hence the condescension and sneering from those of that ilk. I have found one big difference between liberal and conservative intellectuals is how well they understand opposing arguments. Thoughtful conservatives have at least read enough to understand the left's arguments and their underlying political philosophy. Rarely does that seem to be the case in the other direction - you never hear a progressive try to take down the ideas of John Locke, Adam Smith, F.A. Hayek or Milton Friedman because they have never read their works. As intellectually lazy it is to do so, it's much easier to just label conservatives are either stupid or evil.
