Surely with social media and the ability for an individual to reach an audience of MILLIONS online, the threat of their rhetoric multiplying to other like minded people is FAR more damaging in the long run than ownership of a firearm.

I think that was his point, highlighting the lunacy of it all. Not all own a gun, but all have a voice, you make it matter to them, and they may finally understand that the 2nd is # 2 for a reason, to provide the teeth to people to protect the rest of the Bill of Rights.
