    School lunch program

My wife is finishing getting her teacher certificate by doing her student teaching this semester. She says the food is terrible. Guess this is why, now if the schools aren't following the program they could be fined.

Feds to fine schools for not following Michelle Obama's lunch rules

    Washington Free Beacon
    Published March 29, 2016

The federal government is taking steps to fine schools that do not comply with first lady Michelle Obama’s school lunch rules.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service issued a proposed rule Monday to codify parts of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which was championed by Mrs. Obama.

The regulation would punish schools and state departments with fines for “egregious or persistent disregard” for the lunch rules that imposed sodium and calorie limits and banned white grains.

A West Virginia preschool teacher was threatened with fines for violating the rules by rewarding her students with candy for good behavior in June 2015. The teacher ultimately did not have to pay, but the school had to develop a “corrective action plan” with training on the policies.

The government now seeks to make fines enforceable by regulation. Section 303 of the law requires that the federal government “establish criteria for the imposition of fines” for all the Department of Agriculture’s child food programs.

“Under section 303, the Secretary or a State agency may establish an assessment against any school food authority or school administering the Child Nutrition Programs if the Secretary or the State agency determines that the school or school food authority failed to correct severe mismanagement of any program, failed to correct repeated violations of program requirements, or disregarded a requirement of which they have been informed,” the proposed rule states.

I will occasionally go have lunch with Riley. The amount of waste is unbelievable. I actually tried one of the schools lunch and couldn't eat more than a bite. The hypocrite hippo Michelle needs to go back to minding her own business and eating her Twinkies. If the schools want to help fight obese put P/E back in schools 5 days a week not once or twice a week.

Im sure somewhere there are some entrepreneurial children out there making a killing off these rules. A back pack full of zebra cakes could fetch a pretty penny. 5 bucks now or seven on allowance day, your choice.

Stick it to the man! Pack your kids lunch!

I will admit the whole thing is stupid. I let my boy pick one day a week to eat cafeteria food. It's the same garbage I was eating 30 years ago. Steak fingers are here to stay.

We didn't go to grade school when they were rationing during WWII.

I actually grew up with good food in the cafeteria because we were a small school that had a group of Mom's and Grandma's that worked in the cafeteria that cooked like they did at home. We had scratch made cakes and dessert, in addition to fruit, two to three days per week.

nono. back when WE went to school, the fingers were deep fried and you could get a gravy with them. now, they are "baked" and nothing else.

Anytime we could scrounge up a quarter we'd sneak off campus to a little store that sold burgers.. a quarter would get you a cheeseburger all the way, coke and a bag of chips..

you need to remember that just like in govt contracts the contractor that won put in the LOWEST bid, so they use Grade II and III food almost the same stuff they use at food banks, not good enough for resale, you won't see any brand names on the shelf, its all in plain wrap
