I've seen it personally in my own industry of high pressure valves (60KPSI and such)... Used to be, there were 3 manufacturers for this niche market in the US and one in Germany... Now the chinee commie *******s have flooded the market with cheap copies of our products. It's a sad deal, and I'm glad I don't have to worry about it any longer since I'm now retired.
Hence why they didnt have but a handful of countries answer their call.

I don't recall right now, but the company no longer builds them. I also bought a Chinese one. When it takes a dump, I'll reach out to the folks in New Ulm.
Chicken door came today and made in Slovakia not China.....would still have bought the Texas one had I looked.

Patents also don't matter to American either. My quadriplegic neighbor invented a self leveling seat for a wheelchair and spent quite a bit getting a patent. Then a company found out and made the device. He hired a lawyer to stop them and they said sue me. He didn't have deep pockets soooo...

My cousin was COO of Ditch Witch in Perry, Oklahoma. Buddy had a fence post puller built for residential fences and it was awesome and used in his fence business. Asked cousin about a patent on it and he said basically same thing, you could but it wouldn't matter others will build it and this is over 25 years ago and he specifically said China but same as your friend he said others would and you can't fight them. Now a big company like his could fight.

Very similar situation with Weed Eater. George Ballas, the inventor/owner got multiple patents, and he spent 3 fortunes suing people over patent infringements, even won a lot of them. He said he’d never do anything like that again! Said he finally figured out the best thing to do is out perform everyone with marketing, production and dealer sales promotion.

Why should they care about patents? Put yourself in your own Country where you make all the rules, say on the moon. Now people from Mars send you a device to mass produce for them. Why would you follow the rules set on Mars? Chinese culture is and has always been to build things as cheap as possible (and they're the best at that). We ALL know how they think.

So when you send a product over to them you 100% know they'll copy it. So how can people put all the blame on them?

IMO it's American greed (and you almost never hear me say anything bad about greed) that lets China copy their stuff. These patented items almost always sell for 3-10x product cost. Get greedy, have China make them so you can instead make 6-20x cost....then get screwed. Just stay here and make 3x+ until other here copy it. Then out perform them. Either way it's not all Chinas fault in this case. China is just the worlds supply/demand capitalistic price device.

But it's a tough issue as I had monopolies. Patents (on devices and drugs) create temporary monopolies. I know that needs to be the case to reward those who invest to create things though.
