    Tariffs

I don't see much talk on here about tariffs. Trump announced "sweeping" tariffs yesterday, and the stock market is down 3-4% this morning. I know the stock market doesn't mean everything, but tariffs are one thing that I can't quite decide if I agree with or not. What say you?

If they tariff us; then tariff them. It's easy.
Kinda like Trump told the hoothis... stop shooting at ships and we'll quit bombing your azz.

Most are literally HALF what they are imposing on us. Art of the deal.

I think the sort term effect will be painful for those with short sightedness.

It's absolutely destroying me in the short term. -$3 million loss right outta the gate...but I know this will be better in the long run for America. Amazes me the current mindset of folks of wanting to fix the economy... yeah lets fix it as long as it doesn't disrupt one single thing in their own personal day to day life.

I’m far from expert on Constitutional law, but I’m amazed President Trump can unilaterally impose all these tariffs without Congressional approval. Obviously he can.

I hear them screaming Tariff's are bad but then they show how much our goods are being tariffed and it's like Ok why is it not bad for them but bad for us to do it ? Probably only a couple that really make a difference, Canada, Mexico, China, South Korea and didn't see what Taiwan is on their rates on the price of their goods here, with China being the biggest one. News was scrolling the list of countries and tariffs and I've never heard of a bunch of them, wife said same thing.

I'm shocked at a lot of the things that presidents have been doing by themselves but sadly if they weren't able to nothing would happen with the way congress works on things.

The net result of this will be less tariffs across the board. Stock market? Crap I'm selling a couple pieces of equipment to free up some cash to buy this week

IMO this is really really bad. Yes other countries tariff American products, but it is such a small percentage of our production and consumption. This is like using a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito on your foot. This is really an increase on American people's consumption, basically a probably 20% increase in taxes that the public will pay. The worst thing is we will pay more and the debt will keep on raising. None of this is offsetting debt, but will increase it at a faster rate. Market is down $2 trillion in the last hour.

The rest of the world has been living off the US generosity since WWII. I think at this point, we need to move on and protect ourselves. They want to tariff us? We should do it back.

We are the largest economy in the world. Now, we will still have the same economy, but all that money will stay in America.

As to constitutionality. Not really sure how it works, because it's always more complicated and never black and white. Give it a day or two and the constitutionality discussion will be vetted.

Short term pain, for long term gain. If we don't right the ship now (and soon) we'll be in the running for greatest 3rd world s***-hole.

mercantalism has a history. tariffs also ignore comparative advantage.
