    Bill to Abolish TPWD

HB 4938, if passed, would abolish the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and transfer its functions to the General Land Office, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Public Safety.

the way the article is written I don’t see
what the point is of this. Keeping all employees and functions , just transferring to different agencies ?

This State Legislator is a moron. None of the other agencies will want the splits. Totally different job duties required. Just another BS bill that is filed to "show their voters that I tried".

In 2023 over 8,000 bills and joint resolutions were filed in the House and Senate.

About 1,000 passed into law with many being just resolutions such as renaming a highway, etc.

So about 90% of filings were not passed. A majority of those never even made it out of committee. Even more likely, they were never even given a hearing or discussion in committee.

A committee chairman has full control of what he discussed in that committee. That gives the chair complete control over a bill even coming up for discussion. That is why a committee chair and control of the House or Senate by a particular party or important. The majority party controls the agenda and the chair controls what is ever discussed.

This bill was assigned to a committee. That is likely the last we will hear of it.

The final chance to submit a bill to the legislature was last week. Every year we get these late filings where everybody tries to get their bill in. It is like you said, it is to get votes at home by showing the people in your district, By Gosh, I said I would file this bill and I did!

This bill has no additional authors or cosponsor and it’s not filed in the Senate. Basically it’s a one-man show.

We will see a few news stories come out about these late filed bills. It happens every legislative session. Mostly it is Clickbait.

HEADLINES: Bill filed to make marijuana legal in Texas! Then we get the obligatory hundreds or thousands of social media comments such as, thank goodness this is now the law! In fact, it is not law and the author knew that it would never become law, at least in this session. It is that feel good, I made a campaign pledge and I did it.

I did see that the same representative, Pat Curry, filed a bill that would make deer inside of a high fence property of the landowner and not the property of the people of the state.

Let’s see, High fence, neuter TPWD, ….

Does anyone else see an agenda here? Surely a politician would not be making this a personal issue and is only looking out for the best interest of the state!

Can anyone envision, the authority regulating game will be turned over to another commission… Potentially that a politician has some power over as in friends in high places. Since deer inside of a high fence would now be personal property, would deer season even apply? Remember that fishing regulations do not count in a body of water that is completely surrounded by private land. When the public has no access, there are no limits as to size or number of fish kept in those private waters. If a person on private water wants to keep 50 12 inch bass, it’s legal.

I have seen nothing discussed in reference to this and the two bills dealing with the same area but things that make you go, hmmm…… 🤔
