My husband was quick to remind me - DJT Jr went to Gaza during his father's first term to explore building a resort there. Why?

I read up on the history of the Gaza strip on Britannica.com last night. Since 1942, that spot has been a refugee camp. Nothing more. It started as a British colony. Then they gave it to Egypt. Who ceded it to Israel. There have been fights on that 25 mile x 3 mile strip of land since 1942. 2/3 of it is agricultural land. It is the most densely populated location in the world. 2.5 million people live there. It is also the fastest growing population in the world. Egypt over this time period has accepted hundreds of thousands who are trying to escape that region. Since the 80's Egypt has dramatically limited the number of people allowed in from Gaza. (FYI - Wikipedia starts the Gaza story with "after a war, the Jews were given this land." Um, that was was World War II, not just a war.)

The entire place has been destroyed over the last 16 months. The underground tunnels started in the 60's as a way to move black market items throughout the city. The place truly needs to be leveled to the ground and cleaned up and then rebuilt.

Trump threw this proposal out there to get people to think outside the box on this. Few people actually think the US is going to take over that spot.

Oh it’s waaayy older than 1942. That same ground used to be called Philistia, was inhabited 12000 years ago by the philistines (think David vs Goliath from the Bible) and they mixed with the Cannanites. All that to say, these folks been fighting over that same little stretch of ground for eons. This is a spiritual thing, with a spiritual solution and bullets and bombs won’t settle it. Worst thing we can do is get involved.

The Philistines were not the Palestines. I do agree with you on the spiritual comment.

There’s a book called the Dragons Prophecy by Johnathon Cahn. It spends the first 20 chapters connecting the direct link between the philistines and the ancient people of Philistia. Including the Roman historical records of them. It’s a pretty compelling argument they are the same bloodline.

Interesting. I just heard of that book a few days ago. I've always been told there was no connection and I've never found a link between the 2. I thought one of the minor prophets said they would be wiped out and before the Messiah, they were.

I would argue that Britannica got it wrong. Israel wasn't given. It was taken. England threw their hands up and left and it was a free-for-all. There was a war. And the Jewish people came out on top. Is it possible the war Britannica was referring to was the war over that territory?

Been seeing video over there, must not be allowed to paint anything over there. Every building is plain concrete, how depressing is that.

You’ve clearly not read the tbh thread about the price painters demand these days.

                    Ha-ha, I did, plus I've been a painter for 45 years. I think you didn't read it.

Given --- my words, not Britannica. Yes, you are right, but the whole place was a refugee camp before that and remains to this day. There is no industry, no jobs.

They have also had times of peace. The jews were invited there after Russia started to Holocaust the Jews in the early 1900s. In fact, Arabs said something along the lines of they were brothers. The Jews were accepted to the area after the Pogram of 1905 in Russia. That was the start of the mass migrations of Jews back to the middle east.

Britain poured gasoline on the fire by forcing the area to settle the zionists, who were considered political radicals at the time, starting before WWII, and continuing afterwards.

Just to be clear. I am not saying the recent violence is solely Jewish caused or Palestinian caused, but its a long path of mis steps between both parties, and a bunch of external forces that allowed or facilitated the violence to this day. It's a truly horrible situation for all that live there today.

I'm just wondering why it is that none of their neighboring countries want to take any of the ' Palestinians' in as refugees?
I'm pretty sure I know the answer; but would like to see others ideas.

I can't tell if Trump is just making crazy talk or not but this talk about him "owning" Gaza and putting resorts on it is nuts if he's serious. Surely he's not being serious though...right?

Pretty sure not many Americans will be going to Gaza for vacation. I think it's a stupid idea. All those people that live there hate Jews and Americans.
