    Trump and Education

    How does this sound?
“I will shut down the federal Department of Education, and we will move everything back to the states where it belongs!”

It's a great start. But the states need to move it back to local communities and families. Get government out of the school business.

Except the “locals” are governments also.

School boards are elected government officials who have the same authority to make rules, have police departments and tax people.

And if you’ve seen some of the school board videos in the last four or five years…….

Sure. There’s no full proof fix. But we have a lot better ability to make changes in our local governments than we do state or national. Also more private and home schools would definitely be better than even local government schools.

I have absolutely no issues with local control and that’s what it should be. There needs to be standards set by the state though. Otherwise you’ll have school districts that will say you pass any three classes in four years, you get a high school diploma.

You will have districts that teach nothing but CRT and DEI.

Combine local control with vouchers so the parents can choose which school their kids go to, and it will take care of itself. We have loads of government schools right now that teach CRT and DEI and graduate kids who are illiterate.

And you think the state caused that or the local districts, pushing them through?

All I said was that minimum standards need to come from the state and then let the local districts run it.

It came from both. I respect your opinion about state control. I just don't share it.

I am going to play ignorant on this one. I need to google and see the complete "pyramid" to understand the complete top down of public education.

The education standards pushed down from the state have been a joke. I spent 9 years in the classroom and the learning gap is huge. When they say our nations literacy score is down, I believe it. The rigor and expectations have been lowered so much, then combine that with the STAAR tests its no wonder our kids are struggling to read and write by the time they get to HS and even graduate. I wasn't that far removed from HS myself when I started teaching. I can say that what we called the Pre-AP level courses in HS when I started teaching would have been equivalent to the standard level courses when I was in HS. I do not know if the school vouchers are the answer, but I do know that something has to occur and its going to have to involve a big change with Texas Education Agency.

How much of the State standards pushed are a direct result of Fed rules or money policy? I have no clue, just asking.

Schools are not about education or the children. It is simply (govt subsidy) daycare disguised as education.
