Take away tips and have to give the servers or whomever a decent wage, watch your prices for everything skyrocket, period!
Then we could not afford to got out for anything! And then everyone would loose!

There’s always ramifications to any action. People would take advantage by calling some payment as a tip to avoid taxes. I’m all for minimum wage waiter’s tips being tax free. The law would need to be carefully crafted to avoid abuse.

Yep. Pay based on commissions went away and nobody cares at the appliance store, Dillards, etc.......except signing you up for a 30% interest credit card or extended warranty. I remember my dads uncle was a career appliance salesman for Montgomery Wards in Forth Worth and made a nice living and were actually knowledgeable in their products. Only way a restaurant can survive is tips as part of pay or a hamburger will be $25 and and extra $10 with fries......their margin is already too tight. Without tips bars would have to be self serve......wife does son's taxes and claims enough tips to keep him under the radar and full refund. Why do you think Biden wanted to go cashless, so uncle sugar could get it's cut........wife sells her used clothes on Ebay and once over X amount she gets a 1099, doesn't matter that she bought the clothes at higher price and paid taxes the IRS just "assumes" it's income and it's a "business", no she lost weight and had nice clothes that are too big. That's only one off top of my head I know there are others she sells on that do same thing but don't pay that much attention. Same reason Biden and IRS want to flag any large cash deposits, even if it's something you sold at a huge loss they want a cut......of course you have to prove it since they just automatically assume it is income........son bartends at Indian casino and at end of shift they give him cash for the CC tips.....may have different rules since tribal land.

What's dumb is picking one item not to tax as income, in this case, tips.

Why tax the money I make building a house and not tax the money I make in tips as a bartender?

With that said, government spending needs to be slashed. We need a line-item veto. Taxes need to be slashed. The budget needs to be balanced. We need to pay down the national debt. And, to make it happen, we need term limits and no public sector pensions.
