I’m wondering if domestic terrorist start burning and looting cities like they did in Minneapolis and Portland ( La in the 90’s), January 6th march on capital
should or could the president use the military to forcibly stop the destruction?
does this infringe on civil rights?
imo if you are a domestic threat you forfeit your civil rights and freedoms and could be arrested or killed in the process of stopping the destruction, police and local government didn’t seem interested in stopping it last time.
or is this just another Waco deal with government maybe overstepping their boundaries?

Could US military troops be used by the president to put down a rebellion? Yes.

While the Posse Comitatus Act generally disallows using federal troops as local law-enforcement, the Insurrection Act allows an exception to the PCA.

The National Guard, which is under the authority of the governor of a state, is considered part of the Army. It would normally be the governor who would call out the National Guard to help local law-enforcement as state law enforcement under state control. It would not invoke the authority of the PCA because the state is under control and not the federal government. The PCA is a federal government restriction that doesn’t apply to the states.

A president however, can activate the National Guard under federal authority or active members of the military. The US Coast Guard is not under the PCA because they have normal law enforcement duties anyway.

I don’t feel like looking it up at the moment but during the late 1950s, a high school I believe in Little Rock, Arkansas was trying to be integrated with a couple of Black students. The governor stood in defiance and did not allow the students into the school and I believe activated the National Guard. President Eisenhower then activated the 101st Airborne Division and forced the state to back away under federal Insurrection Act authority.

So can US troops be used to suppress civil disorder and the violation of civil rights and not violate the PCA? Absolutely.

Can they be used as police officers such as walking the streets and setting up routine roadblocks to demand ID, etc.? No. The National Guard can if not federalized.

Does it infringe on civil rights? In my opinion no and it’s there to protect the civil rights of people such as the Black children trying to enter a public school or the people to be safe on the streets when people are rioting.

If accused of terrorism, do you give up your rights? In my opinion, no unless you are waging war against the US. If not actually fighting against this country in war, you still have the right to an attorney, the right to face your accuses in trial, etc.

Look, if your local and state gov want to let idiots loot and vandalize then that’s the perfect opportunity to replace the loony left politicians and their policies that permit such behavior and restore law and order.

besides that, the patriot act funneled millions to local LEO for the equipment to squash such criminal behavior, let’s actually use it.

Those governors, Tim Walz who's wife enjoyed them smell of cities burning, could have called up the National Guard but she enjoyed the smell of smoke.....there's no need for the Active Duty military to get involved the governors have the ability to use force but the left love chaos........
