I believe that China's intent was to build its version of a Tesla "BYD" in Mexico and sell the through Mexico into the U.S. to dodge duty's and tarriffs.
I spend a lot of time in China and there are BYD's everywhere and have rode in them. They actually are really nice. And would cost significantly less than Teslas if sold in the U.S. My point is if there were to manufacture here, they would do very well and make the U.S. manufactures step up their game with the new competition. Compeition can be good.

I can say for certainty the mexicans / cartels didn't like the stay in mexico policy one bit...we could be three walls deep & trenches with all the $$$$ we've sent to ukraine.
