I believe our First Amendment is one of the biggest causes of America being in the current state it’s in. Freedom of speech protection should not be given to hate speech, or to news outlets lying to the public for political purposes. There needs to be stiff punishment for that BS. I also believe people standing in front of a police officer cussing them, berating them, etc.. should be arrested. Burning the American flag should land that person in jail. Our “ Freedom of Speech” protection has gotten completely out of control. One’s freedom of speech should not be allowed to be a danger to someone else’s safety or their family’s safety. These violent protest are protected by it. We are so worried about infringing on people’s rights, but we are ok with allowing those same people to physically assault others, destroy property, disrupt traffic, all in the name of Freedom of Speech. It needs to be modified to ensure harmful acts are punishable.

Man… you are just all full of “hot takes” that are off target. The Supreme Court has already determined there is speech that is dangerous and is not protected. The example they used is you can’t scream “fire” in a crowded theater, or “bomb” on an airplane.

free speech is not why we are where we are, that’s an easy scapegoat. But the words of your mouth are the overflow of your heart. Not to be philosophical, but the degrade of speech is only evidence of the degrade of our society.

Wow. Once again I find myself asking if this is even real life. I'll never understand how some folks think that things are no worse now than it was for our parents or grandparents. Of course, we're more exposed to everything in this social media age, but right now the world is a powder keg in a house that's on fire. The 2nd is the only thing standing in the way of these power hungry evil people completing their agendas. The Brits don't have that luxury because they've already given up that right. And we're seeing how losing that right leads to the loss of any others they want to take. When Kamala and her little commie buddy steal this election, watch how they attack gun rights in every way possible. I'm not saying they're going home to home to take guns (yet) but watch how more pieces are put in place. What happened in Venezuela and many other countries, happened incrementally for the most part. In small enough bites that people would swallow.

The fact some here insist on it happening shows how very little confidence they have in the average Joe’s resilience. People really need to get out and breathe some fresh air and get away from the news. All news. There is not a single news outlet on planet earth that is not political at its core. The days of honest non biased news reporting died well before any of us were born. At the end of the day raise your kids the way you think is right and stop worrying about everyone else. You cannot control another human being so stop trying. This is all scripted and already decided.

Complaining about “hate speech”, calling for restrictions on free speech in one post and then complaining about the “left” in another strikes me as ironic.
