As a career soldier I get the chaos and animosity toward the politically correct Military Installation name changes but that doesn’t mean at my age I approach the world with a closed mind.
That’s a fantastic story and it is depressing that his legacy was only honored posthumously rather than receiving the benefits he sacrificed life and limb for. I’ve got no issue with a military post being renamed in his honor.
I’m not offended by a blended whiskey but a good expensive single malt makes more sense 🤣🤣😂🤣😂 I’m not the problem, the cabal that named the bases stupidly from the get go was the problem.
I’m not just a “Veteran”, I’m a military retiree. 😂🤣😂🤣
How old are you?
How long have you known of Fort Hood?
At what point did you figure out the name was "bad"?
If every single person on TBH honestly answers those questions you'd see where the problem comes from.
BTW - If one can read this entire thread without looking at user names - I'd swear VooDoo and Danno names were changed. LOL
If a military base was named for John McCain, would it be ok to change the name of it? What if it was named for Obama? Would it be ok to change the name then?

That would be the equivalent of naming one Fort Jane Fonda.
You guys...geez Why do you flip flop and made dumb comparisons that ignore what we're talking about.
IF there were a lot of us complaining about a base name like Obama or Fonda for the last 70 years I may sing a different tune. I have lived here within 60 miles of Hood since 1978 and never once heard anyone say anything about the name LOL
Should we start a thread on opinions about Confederates? What the war was about etc?

Ive lived here 41 years, and again, I have no problems with the name Ft. Hood. But I dont have a problem changing it to Ft Cavazos either. I get the sentiment of not wanting change. But if it was called Ft Obama for 70 years, nobody would mind erasing that history.
Most people that have any sense know the civil war was fought over states rights, not just slavery. But you can start a thread on it if you'd like.

Again you miss the point.
If a place was being named Obama I'd think there would be cries against it being named that. It appears no one complained about these base names when they were named or at any point in the last 70 years (until this woke crap came up). So you're comparing apples and oranges.

Im not trying to compare anything. Im not even trying to argue with anyone. I just came along to say I dont mind the change. Im all for it being named after a Texas Military Hero instead of someone who fought against the US.
As commander in chief during any significant military moment, it could very well be named Ft Obama. And, there ain’t a darned thing any of us could do about it.
