    Dog Question

I have an old white German Shepherd. (15 years +/-)

I have a dog door and she is welcome to come in and out of the house as she pleases. She likes to stay outside. But lately at night (past 2 days) she has been coming in and staying in our room. Panting.
She seems to be scared of something. This usually happens when a storm is coming. She hates the rain.

This is NOT a guard dog.

Thing is I have no idea what is scaring her. I look at the weather and we are hot and humid but no rain.

Is anyone else's dog doing something strange lately?

Is she looking for protection or is she protecting?

Dog's know better than humans in my opinion. We just have to listen to our dogs.

I am usually pretty good at listening to my dog - but this has me stumped.

Lots of dogs get anxious with storms. We had Brittany that would jump the fence with any spring thunderstorm. She eventually caught her collar on a fence picket and we had to put her down.

15 y/o. She is old. If you are in Houston, its about 5 degree's hotter than normal at night, with zero breeze. She probably shouldn't be outside at night.

Just brace yourself. 15 years is a LONG time for a German Shepard. My lab did something similar shortly before the end.

I would be spending as much time as possible with her right now. Probably best way I can phrase it.

15yrs is really old for a big dog so she's slowing down and/or feeling bad...

Probably partially blind. Hears things she can't see and it frightens her.

It’s hot and she’s old. I’d be looking for a cool place too

Yep. It’s miserably hot outside. I can’t imagine being covered in fur and being out in this heat and humidity

                  That is probably 1000% true.

Yup the heat gets to her. She has a dog door and does not have to stay out side.

I am pretty sure she is hard of hearing.
