Gar this size are very old. I didnt feel that it was right to shoot a gar this big and old and then just throw it away, so I made sure the meat didnt get wasted. I split the meat with a buddy and he tried it first and said it was good, but had a different texture to it. I fried some up a few weeks ago and it tastes better then it looks. I was super careful not to get any eggs on the meat. Always heard they could make you sick....

Bravo and good for you! I've never bow fished but always felt that exact same way when I see pics of these monsters that people kill and just chunk. Such a old and awesome fish to just kill for a few pics.
