Well we got to go hog hunting again this past weekend. This time me and both of my boys got to go. I was the first to score. It was easy compared to Eli's and Zach's hunts. We started a little later in the morning, but it didn't take too long to find a bedded boar. This was a big red boar in the middle of some vines and brush. I thought I had a clear shot, but one of the vines deflected the shot. This just made this boar a little smarter. We took off to another bedding area and jumped several good hogs. Just as we were going to leave Zach spotted a big boar hid within feet of us. We had walked all around this boar. I took an extreme quartering away shot at this boar and he didn't go far until he was down.
Eli was next to score. We had jumped several hogs from their bedding areas. There were several smaller hogs that would not hold, so it was making it hard to get on any that were in their beds. Finally Eli took a big sow out of a stand located on a funnel area.
Last but not least Zach took the big red boar that I had shot at earlier that morning. We had seen him several times through the day, but just could not get on him. From a distance I saw him lay down in some tall water grass. I called Zach to come over and with the wind blowing in our face we put on a stalk. We couldn't see him until we were about 20 yards from him. Zach didn't have a clear shot, so he had to ease up another 5 yards to get a clear shot. I was afraid he was going to jump him up, but he held tight and he took an extreme quartering shot. Zach thought it was a bad shot when the boar got up and ran off, but it was not. The boar only ran about 50 yards. The shot entered through one of his hind quarters and went up all the way to his lungs and heart. Great penetration! It was a long day, but a whole lot of fun to spend with my boys bowhunting.
