    Diamond C Success!!

Sunday was a GREAT day to be down in Texas!

The day started at 11:30am just after I met Skylar (who is a GREAT guy). I was on a ram/hog hunt. I decided to start with the rams and do some spot and stalk. The wind was kickin up with gusts up to 40mph. I managed to get up on the rams 3 times within 30 yards. First time, I misjudged the range from my knees and shot right under one of em. After 3.5 hours of playing tag in the prickly mesquite and ceder trees I made my way back to the truck for a much needed bottle of water. Skylar and I decided to change tactics at that point. We went down to one of the double bulls he had set up and I quickly hopped in. He tripped the feeder and here came the rams. After the commotion was over, a nice white/gold Texas Dall stepped out. I drew and let the RAGE EAT! I heard the THWACK and watched as the ram started hoppin up and down around the feeder. I saw the arrow pull out and as he took off he leg was already covered in blood. I was pumped! 30 minutes later we were following a blood trail that Ray Charles could follow. We found the ram not 10 yards out, but HE WAS STILL STANDING! One more arrow to the boiler room and he was OUT!

After we got him cleaned and in the freezer, we hung out for a while shot some trad and then met the other group that was coming in to hog hunt that afternoon. After a couple hours wait, it was back to the same stand, now dubbed the "Killing Field".
I got in at 5:30 with only and hour till the feeder went off. Almost immediately a nice little chocolate fallow came in to clean up the left over corn. She stayed for an hour until the feeder went off and which point you could hear the hogs goin off. Not 10 minutes later a group of about 8 came in and knocked the doe off the corn. They all lined up facing me and I had to wait until one gave me a nice quartering shot. I drew, placed the pin, and THWACK! The arrow passed through, and by the time I got out of the blind, I heard him squeal and go down. The arrow had hammered both lungs and he didn't go 15 yards.

All in all, it was a GREAT trip with a GREAT guy. I will definteily be goin back to the Diamond C. If you want to see ALOT of hogs, Skylar is the guy to call.
