I have been bow hunting for three years now and up until this past year I have been a guest on a buddy's lease. So finally I was invited to buy into the lease this past year and get my first opportunity to hunt for a buck. The date was October 12th which was a Sunday I am up early before the other guys nothing out of the normal I am so excited to hunt I can't sleep, and the other guys on the lease usually are getting up when I am driving out to my stand.
I get to my stand an hour before sun rise and get settled the wind is blowing real hard seems like gusts up to 20 25 mph it is a cross wind from where I am positioned. Right before first light a yearling comes right across my scent line and into the feeder it has no clue I am up there. I have been using scent free soap for the past two weeks and its a good thing because here come two more deer from behind me and across my scent line also. I can make out the first one its a small 4 point no big deal but right behind him comes this big guy. It is a good thing the wind is blowing so hard because I am making all kinds of wierd sounds trying to breathe kind of like when you jump into some really cold water and you can't catch your breath. I pick up my bow and I am shaking like crazy I have never before been this nervous. I keep telling myself calm down breathe breathe don't screw this up. I see he has 5 points on his left side and I think he is a 10 so I decide to take the shot. The 4 pointer chases the yearling out the back side of the feeder and my buck has his head down I draw back my Diamond he takes another step forward perfectly broad side I pick my spot and let it fly I watch the arrow go in and I am pretty sure its a good shot. I watch him as far as I can and he goes behind the trees to my left and disapears I think I hear him crash but I am not sure this is all new to me. So I am standing in my tripod pumping my fist and shaking like its 10 below now the hard part waiting to get down. I take out my blackberry turn on the Texas Hold'em and wait for an hour the longest hour I have ever spent.
I climb down and start to look after an hour and fourty five minutes I find him piled up about 300 yards behind and to the left of the stand. I hit him in the lungs/liver I would like to say the wind pushed the arrow left but it was probable me but he was found with help from above I was praying hard. What a great expieriance I will never forget. I am having a hard time resizing my pics to download but that's him in my avitar.
