We are between Freer and San Deigo
The place we found was not hunted this season is 750acres. The first day we looked at the place, we saw TONS of sign that showed there were alot of deer. Two of our sides are bordered by a 15,000 acre ranch that is NOT deer hunted at all. From what we understand they occaisionally bird hunt. You can not see a single deer blind as far as you can see in those two directions. We began tailgate feeding this place heavy since we got it. The first two trips to the lease, I was wondering what the heck was going on. We would rarely see a deer when we fed, but they would clean it up after dark. All that was happening was the deer didnt know what the tailgate feeding was all about. This weekend, I would feed and deer would pour out onto the senderos just like any other S. Texas place. I was seeing hogs in broad daylight and great numbers of deer. Saturday I saw a great mature buck at 200+ yards that was a stud! A mature 10 or 11 point that was definately 140+. I also saw a couple of really solid 3yr old bucks this weekend. When Stratton shot his buck from his pop-up, I was looking at 13 doe and two bucks from one spot. I am feeling better and better about this place now. Our plan is to feed feed feed this off season. We will have at least 1 corn feeder per 100 acres and at least two protein feeders. On our other two sides, one side is hunted by one person and the other side is a mystery. No hunters there this weekend, however they were shooting up a storm last weekend. Time will tell. I am just glad I was able to find a place that I can share with Stratton and two other really good friends. We should be able to make something out of this place.
