Well my wife and I decided to go hunting this past weekend for my birthday. We headed out to my wifes grandmothers place in the hill country. We got there at around 1 am Saturday morning. I decided to sleep in and started hunting Saturday night. I set up my ground blind that afternoon and started my hunt. That night I had about 8 whitetail does with fawns and one axis doe come in. Being the first night of a four day hunt I passed and let all walk. Sunday morning I have a six point come in and stay with in 15 yards of my ground blind for about 30 minutes, but decided to let him walk because we was only about a 2.5 year old. Sunday night had about 5 does come in, and a really nice 8 pt. but he turned and left with out coming into one of my shooting lanes. Monday was my birthday so I decided that today was going to be my day. It started off great had a good size buck come in but it was before sun rise so could not get a shot. At sunrise the same 8 does and axis came in to where my wife was hunting, which was only about 50 yards from me. We have to stay close so we can work to take care of out 19 month son. I told her to take the axis if it came in because I wanted the meat. So that morning when it came in she took the shot. I saw her make a perfect shoot on the axis and dropped her in her tracks. She took here with the 270, so that end my morning hunt (had to take care of business). That night I headed back out to my blind and at about 5:15 I had 4 does and 4 fawns came in (One of the does had twins so the fawns belonged to three of the does). Well I had to leave the next morning so I decided to take my first deer with my bow. Made a perfect shot at 10 yds, taking out both lungs. She went about 40 yds and was dead in 20 minutes. Not some great buck but still my first.
