Logged my first of 2008 this weekend. Due to some work needing to be done around the lease, Mary and I were only able to hunt Saturday evening. I was watching the quail and dove milling around and I heard what almost sounded like a cough. I began scanning the treeling and saw this guy coming out. I recognized him from the trailcam pics. I immediately acquired a MASSIVE case of buck fever. It had been almost 11 months since I drew down on a deer. I had it so bad, my vision was getting blurry! I turned on the video camera and let it roll. It seemed like every time I moved to draw, he turned to look at me (or past me). It was an eternity! Finally, he turned and faced the opposite way. At this chance, I drew my Katera back. He sensed something and jumped sideways a foot or so and looked around. He was quartering away, so I settled the pin on the far shoulder and let the Rage fly! It was slow motion watching the arrow pass through. I immediately saw blood coming from the entrance hole. He ran about 10 feet, but then just trotted off into the trees. I could see him for about 30 yards, but then I lost him. I reviewed the video and waited for about 30 minutes. I walked out, picked up the arrow, and began the track. About 50 yards out, I found my buck laying next to a big mesquite! He was a mature slick 8 that we needed to remove from the heard...and I was happy to oblige!
