    Rocksprings Axis Buck

This big boy came into my setup Sunday morning at 8am. I was hunting my Krivo blind, and he came in hot making a b-line to the Krivoman Timed feeder that I have setup, and started stuffing his face! I love hunting this setup! It has really helped pattern these deer, and get them onto MY schedule!

Anyway....My shot was low. I'm pretty sure I liver'd him. I got a complete pass thru, and he walked about 50 yds, and layed down. He layed there for an hour, in sight, getting up and down twice before a young WT buck forced him to find a new bedding area. At 10am my dad showed up with his dog, and we decided 2 hours was long enough. We found the arrow easily, but the slick trick left hardly any blood. No worries tho....His BMC knew what was up. She went straight to him (about 200 yds from my setup), and started baying. This was the first time she has came upon a live deer, and dad was pleased at how she acted. When we got to him, he was standing, but in no shape to run, or move for that matter. I was able to put another arrow in him, and put him down. When he went down, it finally hit me! My first big buck with a bow!! 33" main beams, 27" wide

But wait...it gets better. 36 years, and no stitches......it was a good run. I now have a great relationship with the retired Doctor Chester Todd in Rocksprings. Somehow I layed my finger open when I was trying to bust thru his sternum. I actually have no idea how I did it. By the grace of God I was able to get ahold Dr Todd, and he agreed to see me once he got out of Church. Fortunately for me, that was about how long it took me to get to town! 4 stitches, and 1 hour of my time. That was about the quickest doctor visit I have ever had, and I am so gratefull that he helped me.

My brother finished dropping his internals out, so I didn't get to see what I actually hit. Oh well....it don't really matter I guess. I'm just glad I didn't hurt myself any worse. It was good reality check, and reminder that we need to be more careful.

    yall have a good one!

Great deer and story. I can't believe Dr. Todd is still alive; he was my doctor in High School!

4 stitches? Heck of a Long Way From The Heart. LOL. Great Deer. I hunt Rocksprings and hope one day to have one like that on my Wall.
