Since July,i have been bowhunting hogs in a challenging attempt to kill 1 while stalking.I've had many encounters with hogs,but never could seal the deal until now.Tonite,Oct.9th,i finally performed the perfect stalk.
I arrived at the lease at 4:40pm and noticed my camp site was rooted up.While i was putting on my camo's.I heard Hogs!Close..I got to looking and the hogs was just 50yrds from camp across the lake.I took some quick video of em' and then put the camera away and got my bow.After making my way around the lake,stalking very slow,with the wind in my face and the sun at my back,i found the hogs,all sizes,mostly black in color,just 30 yrds from me feeding away.I tried to get even closer for a clear shot,but got busted.The hogs went running back into the thick woods.I then made my way back to camp to get my 4 wheeler.I knew which direction the hogs were traveling,so i hauled azz to great location to cut them off.And it worked,i found the hogs,just 100yards away feeding on hickory nuts.I got the wind back into my favor and started the stalk again,it seemed like along time ,trying to quietly,take 1 step at a time,in dry leaves and branches.I managed to close the distance to 20 yards and just hide behind a large tree.I watched the hogs for about 2 minutes then a sow started feeding towards me.She walked by me at 10 yards and i was at full draw.Her mistake......
I released,seen the arrow pass clean thru the sweet spot,and watched her run just 20 yards before going down in plan view! A perfect stalk & shot!
Too those who knows what i've been thru, fighting Muscluar Dsytrophy,tonite made a milestone for me.I was really starting to wonder if i could still sucessfully stalk again after learning to walk after the surgeries.I pushed my abilites to extreme tonite,the stalk,then loading up the 80# hog,and getting it cleaned & quartered has left me totally exhausted as i type this story.
The Lord has blessed me in so many ways,and tonite he rewarded me with something i've been praying for...A perfect stalk on feral hogs!
