I had been hunting one set pretty regular, hoping to cross paths with my target buck, but no such luck as the slow morning hunt was coming to a close last Saturday in McCullough County. About the time I was going to give up for the morning, a big bodied 8 point came into my hand corn. I thought I recognized him from trail cam pictures, but just to be sure he was on our hit list, I texted Michael (MichaelW) and Larry (Double L) who were also hunting in the same pasture. From my description they assured me that this was indeed one of our target management bucks we called Almost 9 due to his bump G4 on the left beam. I decided to take the shot as he quartered away, and although slightly high and back, he only managed to circle back around the blind and crashed about 75 yards behind me. He weighed in at 164# live weight (good for our place) and scored 120-5/8. A big thanks to Michael for helping me haul him back to camp and taking the LDPs, and to Larry for having breakfast ready once I had him on ice!
