    So it is done

As some of you know, I headed to the ranch this weekend. We have a ton of mule deer does, and a thinning of the heard was in order. I took up bowhunting 2 years ago. The rabbit in my avatar, was the only thing I had bagged............................till now!!!!!! I am fortunate that I can hunt a variety of species at this ranch. I went there this weekend hoping and thinking, this has to be MY weekend. The Lord looked out for me. A run down of the weekend. I arrived on friday, only to find my 2 hunting partners MIA. I picked up the trusty shotgun and took my limit of dove, that evening. Saturday morning is when the fun begins. I find myself in a ground blind, on a crisp cool October morning. Life can not get more grand then this. I had 2 WT does come in early. I wasn't looking at taking a WT doe.........yet. At about 7:15 AM, I saw 2 muley bucks coming in. One had huge mass and trash at the bottom and spikes at each end. The other, was a really nice one. Not very wide, but very very tall. The spike was curious and came to within 15 yards of the blind, looking at me dumbfounded. The bigger one stayed at a distance. I guess he thought "Dummy here can get speared, I will stay back" The bigger buck, finally said enough and they went on their hop and prance, Cool to watch them, when they do this nervous run off. I then had 5 muley does come in about 900 AM. They would not go in the feeder pen, which was a good thing. All morning I thought to myslef, "Am I going to be able to pull this off???" One of the bigger does turned broadside at 25 yards. Within pulling back, and sight alignment "Thuwmp" I heard the arrow take the magical flight. I saw the doe take a hard kick, and knew she was hit hard. She fled and the rest of the pack followed. I went and retrieved the arrow, and saw the magical pink stuff, we call "The double lung shot " The hardest part was waiting for the doe to expire. Never before had I had the jitters like this. After about a 45 minute wait, I found her. She was about 70 yards away, under a cedar. The shot was perfect and I thought to myslef "Roy, you didn't miss!!!" Having harvested this doe was my saving Grace. It fueled the fire even stronger and it's full throttle now. I know it's only a doe, but it's my first bow kill, so it makes it that much more special. BTW, if you think I just settled for her because there wasn't anything else, well lets just say, more to come Thanks guys for your inspiration, I can now say I AM A BOWHUNTER
