Well Rusk County and the good Lord have been good to me so far this year. Opening day I took my first buck with a bow (that wasn't a spike) and then 2 pigs that afternoon. Took the weekend off for my brothers bachelor party last weekend, so I was eager to get in the woods this morning with the cool snap and the rising pressure. I decided to go sit in my stand I call the white oak stand. It's atop a high ridge that runs north and south, then falls off about 20 feet into a slough behind me to the north. This is a great little funnel area and it really concentrates deer movement into a couple of certain areas, which puts them in bow range. I was skunked all morning till 9:45. I catch some movement at my 11 o'clock about 50 yards through the hardwoods. I grabbed my bow, and got ready. I finally got a good eye on them at 40 yards or so and it was 3 doe. I had one small opening at 30 yards to make something happen. The first doe shimmied through as if she was late for a luncheon. As the 2nd doe was entering my window, I drew my bow and gave her a "meh". She stopped in her tracks and I let one fly. The Shuttle T-Lock center punched her and I watched her go down about 30 yards from where I hit her. Now we are at the house with meat on ice and kicked back in the recliner. Another great day in the woods that I am very thankful for!
