Help - how should I track?

So on my first bow hunt ever one of my shooter bucks comes in. Long story short, get what feels like a good shot right behind point of shoulder, but arrow stuck...

Saw him run off with arrow still in him. This was about 8am. Checked around the last place I saw him running, maybe 30 yds from where I shot him, no blood going back into the brush.

Waiting right now, how long should I wait before going back in and looking? Should I just do circles around last sighting looking for blood or other sign?

Go drop by drop and give it as much time as possible

How much of the arrow shaft was hanging out?

That is going to be tough.
Get a dog if you can

Probably hit offside shoulder. Tracking may be hard with no exit. Buff is right, get a dog if you don't have a good blood trail. BEFORE you track the area up with other odors.

Was he broad side? Or quartering? I stuck one the same way a couple weeks ago and he bled like crazy, just not externally. It was all internally. He piled up pretty close. Look really good for blood!!

              Where are you located?

If you got good penetration it'll probably be good. That broadhead will tear a lot of stuff up inside while he's running. But without an exit he's not going to bleed as much. If it looked like it was in the right spot, exactly behind the shoulder, I would just give it an hour or so.More than likely he's down. If you can get a dog that's great, if not just cover the area really, really good. Good luck.

Salt Gap, just in between Bradyand Eden.

Found small light blood trail, couldn't follow very well so backed out. Stepdad on his way. Anybody got some dogs nearby that need practice?

Thanks for help everybody. I can't honestly say how much penetration was, there was a good amount of shaft stuck out, but it didn't seem like more than 3/4. It was in him pretty solid when he ran off.

He was just slightly quartering away from me, maybe 15 degrees. Still all hopped up, just really want to recover him, and would hate to waste the meat.

Could start bleeding more if he snaps the arrow off on a tree or something. Go slow and good luck

There is a dog in the area but it would not be just for practice.
