Happy to say I finally got my first buck with a bow. The General and I headed out for an afternoon hunt yesterday. My stand set up is a ground blind we made in the center of some cedars with a 15 yard shot to the feeder. 30 minutes after the feeder went off a small 6 pt came in. With the SE wind it was blowing to the left of the feeder somewhat towards where he entered. Was a little nervous he might scent me, but after a few minutes he was relaxed and started eating. I notice he kept looking back at the spot he came in. After 10 minutes or so he got nervous and stared down the entrance for about a minute. I knew something was coming. Thats when the buck came in. He stayed just shy of shooting lane and ate corn for about 5 minutes. Only thought i had was please keep eating and make your way to the feeder. Eventually he made his way around the back side and into the right shooting lane. With some perfect branches blocking his sight i drew back. He stepped forward and i let the arrow fly. Shot looked high, but could see the exit wound with blood as he ran off. We waited till an hour and a half after the shot and proceeded to track him. I got my dog bailey leashed and on the trail. She led us down the trail and shortly after we found him about 175 yards from the shot. Losing a buck to a bad shot two years ago I was more than thankful for the recovery. Now I can relax a little for the season and look forward to going after another buck at the other ranch which is under the "Never Ending Ranch Work" thread.
